Models For Sale

Periodically I create non-commissioned one-of-a-kind models. Typically on completion these are sold to a collector or displayed at specialty stores or an art gallery. Thus a model may be available for sale on-line. When available it will appear on this page.

1953 Chris Craft 63’ wood motor yacht model

Beginning in 1999 plans for the 1953 Chris Craft 63’ wood motor yacht were purchased from the Chris Craft archives at the Mariner’s Museum, Newport News, Virginia and redrawn by master model builder Robert Walker to the chosen scale of 1” per foot. Chris Craft built but three of these 1953 motor yachts.

All materials and hand crafted parts for this scratch built wood model are of the finest quality. The hull is fastened with twice the amount of fasteners to prevent warping or heaving. The hull consists of soft wood planking coated and finished with enamel on the surface. The decking is comprised of thin strips of teak while the cabin is constructed of 3/16th or 1/4” multi laminate with the face and back laminates in mahogany.

All plastic components are formed in hand crafted molds, via vacuum forming machinery, then tin chromed (with direct current technique) or finished with enamel. All brass parts are individually milled on a small bore multi-task precision milling machine, assembled in hand crafted templates, then soldered withdirect current pin point accuracy.

Located in the navigation bridge at the area above the hand crafted ship’s wheel are the navigation controls and framed maritime map cabinet.

While crafting this model for a period of 7 years, research of literature and data from the archives documentation provided accurate information on the motor yacht’s styling and general specifications.

Two of Robert Walker‘s models are on display at the Big Red Fire Museum in Louisville, Mississippi. The first is a model a Chris Craft runabout and second is an award winning model of a whaleback steamer, the “ John Ericsson“.

Mr. Walker’s appreciation of historical ships and watercraft has inspired his work in crafting these fine museum quality models.

The finished glass covered model and base rests on a professionally built light oak display cabinet which provides the viewer with the comprehensive detailing of a beautiful, one of a kind Chris Craft model.

This model is for sale and included in the purchase price are all original and scaled plans, notes, and calculations along with many photos of the construction process. Also included is a professionally built shipping crate.
